Description

The Bamboo Shark or Banded Cat Shark has a beige slick body with thick black bands that wrap around the shark; The bands will fade as the shark grows larger. Tiny cat-like whiskers are visible at the mouth.

The Black Banded Cat Shark needs open swimming area on the bottom of the tank with a sandy bottom to prevent scratches on its soft skin. Maintain pristine water conditions with plentiful dissolved oxygen in the water and steady water movement. Some structures are needed for shelter as well. More than one can be kept in larger tanks. Keep with more formidable fish such as larger tangs, damsels, and less aggressive angelfish. Puffers, triggerfish, larger eels and aggressive angels should not be housed with sharks as they can inflict wounds in the eyes and soft skin. Invertebrates are not safe and the Cat Shark is not recommended in a reef tank. A closed lid on the tank needs to be secure at all time to prevent the shark from jumping out.

Sharks and rays will eat all foods whole so it is important to feed your shark or ray pieces of food according to what it can swallow for its size. To ensure proper feeding use a feeding stick. Feed all meaty foods such as small fish (silversides), squid and shrimp. To insure proper nutrition and disease resistance mix the feeding with Ocean Nutrition Shark Formula.
