Description
The Guitarfish or Shovelnose Guitarfish is named for its unique shape.  This interesting fish has a smooth gray body and faded brown patches.  The head is a flattened triangular shape and the body is very shark like.
The Guitarfish is a sensitive specimen and needs pristine water conditions and the proper sized aquarium for it to be housed. Provide extra acclimation time for this ultra-unique fish.

The Guitarfish needs lots of good water movement and open swimming area on the bottom of the tank with a sandy bottom to prevent scratches on its soft skin.  The bottom substrate must be thick enough so it can bury itself under the sand when resting. Keep with more formidable fish such as other sharks or rays.  Puffers, Triggerfish and aggressive angels should not be housed with the Guitarfish as they can inflict wounds in the eyes and soft skin. Invertebrates and small fish will be eaten.

Sharks and rays will eat all foods whole so it is important to feed your shark or ray pieces of food according to what it can swallow for its size.  To ensure proper feeding use a feeding stick.  Feed all meaty foods such as small fish (silversides), squid and shrimp. To insure proper nutrition and disease resistance mix the feeding with Ocean Nutrition Shark Formula.
