The Rooster Hogfish has a narrow body with a long snout with a retractable mouth; the high moveable dorsal fin resembles a roosters crest. Most Rooster Hogfish are range in color from grayish to redish brown They can grow large and move swiftly.
Provide the Rooster Hogfish a very large tank with a sandy bottom and rock work to probe for small crustaceans. Best to keep one of these Rooster Hogfish per Tank; their large stature may have other tankmates intimidated, so it is advised to keep other large fish in same tank. All are born female and later change to male. They have a powerful mouth parts to devour all invertebrates.
Feed Mysis shrimp, silversides and squid.
